Not that I’m playing favorites, but I kind of am, and my favorite little boy is Melton. He’s Jason’s (Carlos’ friend) little brother and he’s the loudest, cutest little boy that I’ve ever seen in my life! He’s in first grade and he’s officially mine. I tell his brothers that I’m taking his every time I see him! Today he sat with me while the big guys played soccer and found seeds that when you tear them look like hearts. We just kept tearing and making more hearts. Tonight I got to meet his family, which was wonderful because his brothers Jason and Maynor are also my favorites! On the way back from town today, Maynor, 11, was riding a bike with someone and yelled my name and waved when he saw me! It made me so happy to see their family at church and see that they seemed to be great people. If I were to say that I had a favorite family it’d be them!

Then there’s Monica. Monica just turned 11 years old on Saturday. She my sister-straight from her mouth! I think I love her so much because she was the first one to remember my name. The team and I were walking through the barrios last week headed back for lunch, and I was tired out. We came around a corner and I hear, “Brooke!” I look and see this little girl grinning from ear to ear who hugs me immediately! It made my day! I immediately loved her, and now every time she comes onto the property she asks for me and sticks with me the entire time she’s here. She painted my nails for me last week and wrote me a note that told me how much she loved me and that I was her sister! Because I fell immediately in love with her, when her friend told me that her birthday was Saturday I promised to buy her a present. I bought her a pretty little shirt and made her a big birthday card that the team signed. She loved it so much that when she came back to adult church this afternoon, she brought me a long letter that she had written and colored. She made a tiny pocket book-looking bag out of notebook paper, glued it together, glued a ribbon for a handle to it, and put the letter folded up inside it! My face lit up when I she handed it to me. When I went in the house and opened it, tears came to my eyes! This little girl has captivated me, and I’m currently trying to figure out how to pack her in my bag to bring her home with me!
Me and Monica 🙂
I can’t imagine leaving these precious kids! I have been so blessed to have the love of these amazing kids! Loving kids is what I think God made me for, and He’s allowing me to live that here! YES!!
