It’s Chilly Outside

As my plane hovered over the icy landing strip of Atlanta Georgia, I was once again reminded that California was far behind me and Nicaragua was five days ahead. Walking into the chill of the city burned my cheeks and numbness quickly worked its way through my hands and toes. Being the practical and logical woman that I am (not at all), decided that bringing a sleeping bag and pillow was a waste of space and I was sure that a nice comfy bed was awaiting my arrival. First stop in Atlanta was the gates of the local homeless shelter known as “Safehouse.” To be honest my heart dropped as I realized my bed was an empty mattress on the floor. The Lord’s humor always gets me and the two towels I brought turned into my pillow and blanket. Let’s just say that the next few days at training camp were filled with shivers and chills, but by day four a blanket was provided by an amazing teammate, thank you Jesus!
Although my body has felt the paralyzing cold, my heart has experienced the opposite. The Lord has overwhelmed my heart, soul, and mind with his love for me and he has given me such a deep passion for the 9 women on my team. Each of these girls have been covered with the Lord’s radiance, and we as a team are ready and eager to speak God’s word and truth to the country of Nicaragua. We have assembled, we are ready to fight for broken hearts, we desire to bring life, for He has chosen us for such a time as this.
