A Beautiful Fragrance
A drift, a blow, a breeze
the intensity turns to greet me.
When it’s full, it’s packed, it’s deep
And there’s purpose among its mystery.
A memory, a thought, a glimpse
Lead me to remember the present.
When it lingers, it draws, it surrounds
May it pour over lives in drought.
A drop, a jar, a pool
Cover us with what only He knew.
When it anoints, it prepares, it blesses
for this is our Beautiful Fragrance.
As 1 week has passed since the sisterhood arrived in Nicaragua, the Lord has whispered the word fragrance in my ear many times. When I first smelled the thick humid air of Nicaragua, I was brought back to past memories, comforting moments, and deep breaths of healing. This is my second trip to this country and once again I am reminded of God’s unfailing love even in places of despair. About 5 days ago our team walked deep into Jinotepe’s back roads where we met with a family to have lunch. Although the stench of an outhouse and garbage seemed to dominate, there was a beautiful woman I met whose love felt like an expensive and rare perfume had just been poured over me. She sat with me and held my hand with such grace and kindness. We could not understand each other through speaking, but we found a true bond in laughter, hugs, and kisses. I have not had a grandmother in my life for many years and this sweet older woman gave me a comfort I have longed for deeply. I thank the Lord for the lingering fragrance she has been for me and the amazing example of pure love I experienced in her presence. May we all be a rising fragrance to Him who loves us.
